Our conviction

Solid-State Circuit Breakers need transistors designed for protection, not conversion.

Power conversion devices are optimized for repeated switching. In a Solid-State Circuit Breaker, the switch remains continuously in the main current path, making ultra low conduction losses one of the main design requirements.

The operating profile changes what matters most in the semiconductor.

Our foundations

WBG and UWBG materials, engineered across device and system.

Breakthrough performance and industrial scalability demand more than material innovation alone.

They also require innovation at the device and system levels, to deliver compact, cost effective chips that integrate seamlessly into existing semiconductor and Solid-State Circuit Breakers value chains.

That is the essence of AlpSemi’s approach: material, device and system are engineered together, in close collaboration with leading industry partners such as Schneider Electric Ventures and Navitas Semiconductor.

Our technological breakthrough

A unique lateral technology purpose-built for Solid-State Circuit Breakers

As bidirectionality becomes a key requirement for solid-state protection applications, lateral technology offers the best path forward. It enables bidirectionality while also allowing additional functions to be integrated directly within the device.

01
Fewer semiconductor dies
One monolithic bidirectional switch replaces 4 discrete switches and reduces gate-drive circuitry.
02
Reduced thermal hardware
Lower losses and a smaller footprint reduce heatsink requirements.
03
Higher power density
The elimination of extra switches and associated circuitry increases power density substantially.
04
Lower loop inductance
Monolithic integration shortens current paths, improving interruption speed and transient behavior, which is critical for SSCBs.
